The British company Palringo has announced a free Windows Mobile chat client offering single sign-on access to multiple instant messaging (IM) networks. In addition to text messages, the eponymous "Palringo" client also lets users exchange pictures and voice messages for free, the company says.
(Click here for a larger view of Palringo)
Palringo supports IM networks that include AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Gadu Gadu, ICQ, Jabber, and Windows Live Messenger. After logging in, the phone user enjoys access to all their IM accounts via an integrated contact list, the company says.
Palringo's offering is hardly the first Windows Mobile chat client aimed at unifying multiple IM accounts. Earlier offerings include Mundu, Mobile IM, Raketu, and Fring, some of which also throw in VoIP calling capabilities. |

We saw a post about the press release and kick-off event for the HTC Diamond this morning and after looking at some more of the videos and having the opportunity to find out more about the Diamond from a call with Jason B. Mackenzie, Executive Director, National Accounts, I think HTC has a potential big winner here. The UI is absolutely amazing and takes what you see on the latest HTC Touch to a new level that should appeal to many people looking for a rich experience from their mobile device. I was thinking about saving up for the 3G iPhone, but I think the HTC Diamond may have just knocked down the iPhone a bit for several reasons.
The HTC Diamond still has Windows Mobile at its core, 6.1 Professional this time, so it fully supports all of those great enterprise and consumer features I want from a device, such as Bluetooth keyboard and A2DP support, 3rd party application support, internet sharing with a laptop, standard USB to miniUSB charging support, video capture, cut/copy/paste, and more. With Windows Mobile at its core and HTC UI improvements and applications running on top of that the experience should be awesome. |

Paul of Modaco has posted a thread called Come share development with Popfly mainly in response to his development of the DupeDeDupe program for Windows Mobile and his desire to create an open-source community development network. By using PopFly, users can share code and collaborate on project development remotely and within Visual Studio.
With that in mind, I would like to propose the open-source development of a new program for Windows Mobile theme changing.
Themes are very popular. People love to personalize their mobile devices. Many ROM cookers on Xda-Developers will create their own themes that are implemented across a variety of included applications. Unfortunately, themes for third party applications cannot be defined or changed from within Windows Mobile’s native “Today” Control Panel Appearance tab. There are completely different methods of changing the Today screen theme, Media Player theme, and Phone dialer theme. Then if you’ve got some HTC applications in your ROM, there are yet other methods of changing the HTC Home Plug-in theme, TouchFLO Cube theme, Comm Manager theme, SIP keyboard themes, etc. The possibilities are endless. |

The Touch Diamond is slated to be formally unveiled on Tuesday, but for those who can't wait, an overview with pictures of this 3G Windows Mobile smartphone have appeared on the Web. The images and specifications of this device were leaked to newsmobile.it.
This smartphone will be an upgraded version of the very popular original HTC Touch, and targeted at the pro-sumer class. Although the upcoming model will have a few more buttons than the current one, most user interaction will be done with the 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen. It will reportedly run Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro on a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor and 128 MB of RAM, and include an updated version of this company's fingertip-oriented application launcher, Touch FLO. The Touch Diamond will sport 4 GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card for more capacity. The initial version will apparently be a quad-band GSM phone with 7.2 Mbps HSPA, but a CDMA version with EV-DO Rev. A. is expected later. Additional wireless features will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, and GPS. It will reportedly have a rear-facing 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus, plus a front-facing VGA camera for video conferencing. Other features will include a 900 mAh battery and sensor that call determine its orientation. Overall, it will be 3.9 inches tell, 2.0 inches wide, and 0.42 inches thick (99mm x 51mm × 10.7mm). Pricing and availability won't be known until the official announcement on Tuesday. In addition, those interested in this HTC smartphone should be aware that not all versions of it will have all these features. The wireless carriers who offer it will doubtless modify it to meet their needs. Original Source here. |
