The HTC Diamond takes Windows Mobile to the next level PDF Print E-mail

We saw a post about the press release and kick-off event for the HTC Diamond this morning and after looking at some more of the videos and having the opportunity to find out more about the Diamond from a call with Jason B. Mackenzie, Executive Director, National Accounts, I think HTC has a potential big winner here. The UI is absolutely amazing and takes what you see on the latest HTC Touch to a new level that should appeal to many people looking for a rich experience from their mobile device. I was thinking about saving up for the 3G iPhone, but I think the HTC Diamond may have just knocked down the iPhone a bit for several reasons.

HTC Diamond takes Windows Mobile to the next level

The HTC Diamond still has Windows Mobile at its core, 6.1 Professional this time, so it fully supports all of those great enterprise and consumer features I want from a device, such as Bluetooth keyboard and A2DP support, 3rd party application support, internet sharing with a laptop, standard USB to miniUSB charging support, video capture, cut/copy/paste, and more. With Windows Mobile at its core and HTC UI improvements and applications running on top of that the experience should be awesome.

Ultimate Windows Mobile Theme Changer PDF Print E-mail

Paul of Modaco has posted a thread called Come share development with Popfly mainly in response to his development of the DupeDeDupe program for Windows Mobile and his desire to create an open-source community development network. By using PopFly, users can share code and collaborate on project development remotely and within Visual Studio.

With that in mind, I would like to propose the open-source development of a new program for Windows Mobile theme changing.

Themes are very popular. People love to personalize their mobile devices. Many ROM cookers on Xda-Developers will create their own themes that are implemented across a variety of included applications. Unfortunately, themes for third party applications cannot be defined or changed from within Windows Mobile’s native “Today” Control Panel Appearance tab. There are completely different methods of changing the Today screen theme, Media Player theme, and Phone dialer theme. Then if you’ve got some HTC applications in your ROM, there are yet other methods of changing the HTC Home Plug-in theme, TouchFLO Cube theme, Comm Manager theme, SIP keyboard themes, etc. The possibilities are endless.

8 million U.S. Workers to Use VoIP by 2012 PDF Print E-mail

Nearly 8 million U.S. workers will use IP telephony lines by the end of 2012, according to new projections from a business publishing company.
An indication of the increasingly popular technology’s reach, the figure will eclipse 5 million by the end of 2010, according to Pike & Fischer’s (News - Alert) Broadband Advisory Services.
Though larger companies are expected to fuel much of that growth early on, smaller companies likely will follow with technologies such as voice over Internet protocol, or “VoIP” systems, according to Rich Power, a contributing analyst at the Silver Spring, Maryland-based company and author of the report.
“The sales and marketing cycle may be a little longer for buyers in this segment,” Power said. “There is just too much at stake to risk changes to their communications systems unless they fully understand the risks and potential rewards.”

Virtual Private Networks are mainstays of remote security. Great efforts must be made to enable VPNs to accommodate increasingly demanding real-time IP-based applications.

This week, NetMotion Wireless said version 8 of its Mobility XE VPN, which is designed for Windows, now supports VoIP. TechWorld reports that packet-loss recovery, compression and othe techniques enable the VPN to work fast enough to support real-time applications. The VPN can switch calls between the wide-area network (WAN) and a Wi-Fi network.
